Ants being treated during pest control in George

If you've got pests in your George home or business, the quickest fix is a proper inspection followed by a treatment aimed at where they're coming from, not just where you're seeing them. That's how we work, and it's why most of our jobs don't need a repeat visit.

George is a good place to live, and pests agree with us. We get decent rain, mild winters and a lot of green around town, from the gardens in Denneoord and Heatherpark to the bush that runs up towards the Outeniqua Mountains. That combination keeps insects and rodents active for most of the year, not just in summer.

What we see most in George

  • Ants are the number-one call-out. After rain they move indoors in long trails, usually heading for the kitchen or a pet's food bowl.
  • German cockroaches in kitchens, flats and restaurants. They breed in the warm spots behind fridges, stoves and dishwashers.
  • Rats and mice, especially in homes that back onto open ground, fruit trees or a compost heap. Autumn is when they start looking for a warm roof.
  • Fleas, often after a new pet arrives or the dog has been spending more time indoors.
  • Stored product insects like weevils and pantry moths, which arrive in a bag of flour or birdseed and spread from there.

How a treatment works

We start by finding out why the pests are there. For rodents that means looking for the gap they're using to get in, where they're nesting and what they're eating. For insects it means finding the trail, the nest or the breeding spot. Treating without that step is how people end up spraying every few weeks and getting nowhere.

Then we treat. For crawling insects we use odourless, non-staining residual sprays as a barrier inside and outside the house, plus baits for ants and cockroaches. Ants carry the bait back to the nest, which is what actually finishes off a colony. For rodents we use bait stations, traps or tracking powder depending on the building and whether there are pets and children around.

You don't need to unpack your cupboards or move out for a normal insect treatment, and the treated areas are safe for kids and pets once they're dry. Fumigation is a different job: if you need a room or a store fumigated, we'll explain exactly how long it has to stay sealed.

Homes, shops and industrial sites

Most of our work in George is residential, but we also look after restaurants, shops, offices and warehouses. Commercial kitchens need regular cockroach control, and anywhere that stores food or animal feed needs to keep rodents and stored product insects out. If you need a regular service contract, we can set one up around your trading hours.

What does pest control cost in George?

The price comes down to what we're treating, how big the property is and how far the problem has spread. A standard ant or cockroach treatment in a house is a fairly quick job. A restaurant kitchen, a rodent problem that needs proofing and follow-ups, or a warehouse fumigation is a bigger one. We quote free, and we'll tell you what's included before we start.

One thing most people get wrong: buying a can of spray and attacking the ants you can see. It kills the workers on the counter and leaves the nest untouched, so they're back in a week. Baits that the ants carry home are what actually solve it.

Why people use us

We're SAPCA registered, we've been working in the Garden Route for more than 25 years, and our treatments come with a 3-month guarantee. If the pests come back in that time, so do we. Branch manager Simon Kennell runs the George office in Denneoord, so you're dealing with a local team, not a call centre.

Questions we get asked

Do I need to leave my house during pest control?

No, not for a normal insect or rodent treatment. Keep children and pets off treated surfaces until they're dry, then carry on as usual. Gas fumigation is the exception, and we'll tell you up front if your job needs it.

How long does a treatment take?

An average house takes about an hour or two, depending on its size and what we're treating. Rodent jobs may need a follow-up visit to check bait stations and traps.

What does the 3-month guarantee cover?

If the pests we treated for come back within three months, we come back and re-treat at no extra cost.

Do you work outside George?

Yes. We cover the Garden Route, from Mossel Bay and Stil Bay to Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, and inland to Oudtshoorn.
