What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work safely. Others record how the site is used, so the owner can see which pages help people and which don't. Cookies and South African law
South Africa doesn't have a separate cookie law. Where cookies collect information that could relate to you, the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) applies. Our approach is simple: cookies that are strictly necessary to run the site securely are always on, and anything used for statistics is only switched on once you've agreed to it.
The cookies we use
Strictly necessary
The network that protects and delivers this website, Cloudflare, may set security cookies such as __cf_bm and cf_clearance. They help tell real visitors apart from automated traffic and attacks, last from about 30 minutes to a short while longer, and don't identify you personally. Because the site can't be delivered safely without them, they don't need consent and can't be switched off here.
Statistics (only with your consent)
If you choose Accept, we load Google Analytics, which sets cookies called _ga and _ga_ followed by a code. They're used to count visits and see how the site is used:
- Which pages are viewed and for how long
- How visitors found the site, such as a Google search or a link
- The type of device, browser and screen size
- The approximate area a visit comes from, at city or country level
These cookies last up to two years unless you delete them. The information is processed by Google on our behalf, may be stored on servers outside South Africa, and is used by us only to understand and improve the website. We don't use it to identify you, and we don't use it for advertising.
If you choose Reject, or don't make a choice, Google Analytics isn't loaded and these cookies aren't set.
Remembering your choice
Your Accept or Reject choice is saved in your browser's local storage, so the cookie banner doesn't appear on every page. It stays on your device and isn't sent to us.

We don't sell or share information from cookies with advertisers.
Changing your mind
You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw consent, Google Analytics stops loading from the next page you open, and we remove its cookies from your browser where we can.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, which stops Google Analytics on every website you visit. The site works normally whichever you choose. Blocking all cookies, including security cookies, may mean the site asks you to confirm you're a person before it loads.
Google Search Console
We also use Google Search Console to see how the site appears in Google search results. It reports on searches and clicks in general and doesn't set cookies on your device.
